The Derbyshire School Governors' Association exists to serve the governors and, hence, the schools and children of Derbyshire.

DSGA is an Independent Governors Association and is affiliated to the National Governors’ Association. Its function is to:
- Acts as the local representative and consultative body to Derbyshire Local Authority; National Governors Assoc.; Governor Associations in the East Midlands; DfE; Government.; Teaching Staff Unions and Associations; et al..
- Provides an independent forum for the exchange of ideas, experiences, and good practice for governors of Derbyshire Schools.
- Promotes high standards of school governance and practice in the exercise of their responsibilities by governing bodies.
Regular Activities:
- Open Executive meetings normally held monthly on the 4th Wednesday of each month (excluding August and December)
- Regular updates of our website www.dsga.org.uk
- Articles in The Derbyshire Governor
- Consultation/Liaison meetings with Derbyshire Authority, National Governors Association, Regional Association and Governor Support Services
Reasons to become an active member of DSGA:
- Member of the National Governors' Association
- Signed agreement with the Local Authority "Framework for continued effective partnership"
- DSGA acts as a Representative Voice at Local, Regional and National governor networking meetings
- Communicates governors' views on local issues to Derbyshire Local Authority Officers and elected Members regularly
- DSGA Executive Committee normally holds regular monthly meetings on the 4th Wednesday of each month (excluding August and December)
- DSGA has its own website www.dsga.org.uk which publishes up to date information for school governors
- DSGA has regular contact with our fellow Local Governor Associations throughout the East Midlands, and nationally
- Members of the DSGA Executive Committee serve on the Derbyshire Schools Forum, Local Social Partnership and other groups
- DSGA provides an independent forum for the exchange of ideas, experience, and good practice for governors of Derbyshire schools
- As we are Grant funded, no fees or subscriptions are charged
